Godinton House provided a magnificent background for the Ashford & Weald Secondary Schools Cross Country Event. Over 250 runners from 8 secondary schools across Ashford weaved their way around the magnificent parkland of the Godinton Estate.
Competition Manager, Peter Le Rossignol, was able to secure the Godinton grounds that are also used for the primary schools event which he also runs.
A number of courses ranging from 2000m up to 4000m were set out across the undulating grounds with some testing climbs and a short wooded section.
The course was set out and marshalled by an army of sports leader from the North School and Homewood School ably assisted by volunteers from Ashford Athletics Club.
The girls events were dominated by Highworth Grammar School, winning the Year 7 and Year 8 & 9 races and finishing second in the year 10 and 11 race to Homewood School.
The boys events saw Ashford School claim the year 7 title, Homewood School the year 8 and 9 title and Norton Knatchbull School the year 10 and 11 title.
The event organised by the School Sport Coordinators of the Mid Kent & Ashford School Sport Partnership proved to be an enormous success.
