Over 250 excited young people took part in the 2nd Inter School Sport Partnership Sportshall Athletics Final held at Swallows Leisure Centre in Sittingbourne on Wednesday 20th January.
The final involved 10 schools from the Mid Kent & Ashford and Sheppey & Sittingbourne School Sport Partnerships. The schools qualified for the final by finishing as the top 2 schools in the Ashford, Maidstone, Sheppey and Sittingbourne Sportshall athletics festivals.
Sportshall Athletics provides the ideal pathway in which to introduce young people to athletics competition. The event involves running, jumping and throwing activities.
Minterne Junior School from Sittingbourne dominated the event from the first event, winning 12 events out of the 22 events they contested. Their wins included the Boys & Girls obstacle relays, 1+1 Lap Relay, Over/Under Relay and the Standing Long Jump. After such a strong overall performance Minterne finished with 398 points to win the event and qualify for the Kent Aviva Sportshall Primary Final in March representing the Sheppey & Sittingbourne School Sport Partnership.
Runners up with 312 points was Madginford Junior School from Maidstone who performed well across all events and won the boys Chest Push and Standing Triple Jump events. Madginford Junior School will also qualify for the Kent Aviva Sportshall Primary final in March representing the Mid Kent & Ashford School Sport Partnership.
There was a very close finish for 3rd place with Roseacre Junior School of Maidstone and St Teresa’s Primary School from Ashford both finishing with 286 points. 3rd place was decided on the number of wins during the competition and St Teresa’s Primary School came out on top with 4 wins.
Overall there where some great performances across the competition from all the teams. Well done to these schools from the Mid Kent & Ashford Partnership that took part. Their final placings are listed below:
