Year 6 pupils at Pluckley Primary School have been demonstrating their leadership skills to the partnership. The pupils received training in September on how to be effective leaders and since then have been working hard to demonstrate this.
The pupils devised a rota for the week with the help of Mrs Moyce and now lead activities at lunchtimes to the rest of the school. The rota is displayed in the main hall.
Every lunchtime the leaders have an area in the playground to set up any equipment they need and to play a range of games including ‘Gears’, ‘Traffic Lights’ and ‘Dragon’s Treasure’! Pupils wishing to join in collect a bib, are given a warm welcome by the leaders and take part in the activities.
The Pluckley pupils have developed their communication and organisation skills, have stayed motivated and increased their confidence.
In March the partnership is hosting a ‘Young Leaders Award Tutor Training’ course. Teachers, teaching assistants, coaches or anyone looking to introduce leadership to a group of 9 to 13 year olds could attend this.
Those attending the course will receive a pack with games that can be lead in the playground, a resource DVD provided by Sports Leaders UK and a template booklet that can be given to the young leaders when they are training.
